There is a wide range of commercially available nest-boxes, shelters and hibernacula which can be fitted to the outside of a building, or used like a brick in the construction phase of a development. These can provide nest-sites or shelters for species ranging from peregrine falcons to lacewings. It is important to make sure that the correct 'boxes' are used with respect to what birds, bats or bugs are prevalent in the area, and it is also important to make sure that they are sited correctly. These bricks, specifically designed for swifts, were installed at London Zoo. They were successful in attracting a number of swifts, and it is anticipated that they will use them again next year when they return to the UK.
